Mid-Air Technical Glitch Triggers Panic as Flight Engine Fails Near Meerut; Safe Emergency Landing Executed in Delhi

NEW DELHI: Panic gripped passengers aboard a twin-engine passenger aircraft bound for the national capital when one of its engines suffered a technical failure while cruising in the airspace near Meerut, prompting the flight crew to declare an emergency, manage a single-engine descent and execute a controlled landing at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in Delhi. According to preliminary aviation reports, the aircraft was en route to Delhi when the cockpit crew detected abnormal parameters in one of the engines over the Meerut region, rendering it inoperative mid-flight, following which the pilots immediately established priority communication with Air Traffic Control in Delhi. Upon receiving the distress transmission, ATC authorities declared emergency preparedness on the ground, alerting ground safety crews, fire tenders and medical response units to stand by along the designated landing strip.

Despite the rising anxiety inside the cabin as passengers became aware of the mid-air technical issue, the flight crew relied on standard operating procedures for single-engine landings, stabilising the descent vector and completing a controlled touchdown on the main runway at IGIA at approximately 2:15 PM, after which emergency response vehicles escorted the aircraft to a remote bay where all passengers deboarded safely via mobile stairs with no injuries reported. Aviation safety inspectors and technical teams have since initiated a detailed investigation into the root cause of the engine failure, and the aircraft has been grounded pending complete diagnostic checks by engineering units and regulatory compliance teams to evaluate fuel lines, mechanical components and electronic sensor logs.
